Get Out More.............................Gig News HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT (The Robin, Bilston Dec 3) 28-11-2007 The band who once gave up a Top Of The Pops appearance so that they could watch their beloved Tranmere Rovers are back in the West Midlands next week. Steve Beauchampe will be first in the queue. Doing anything next Monday, December 3rd... NO? Right, no excuses then; Half Man Half Biscuit, the band disgraced BBC presenter Andy Kershaw calls England's finest folk group, play a gig at The Robin 2 in Bilston. If you only remember them from 1986's chart hit The Trumpton Riots, then however good that track was (and it was) then rest assured that their work over the last ten years or so has easily surpassed it. Inspired though titles such as Monmore, Hares Running; Joy Division Oven Gloves and Brian May Haircut Blues are, the songs themselves are even better. Sharp, witty and incisively observed, singer Nigel Blackwell's lyrics express the frustrations of the perennial outsider, mixed with the pleasure of watching as the great and the good are brought down by their own self importance. Oh, but there's so much more to them than that...find out why next week in Bilston and then ask Santa for a HMHB album for Christmas...2005's Achtung Bono! would be a good place to start.
