TROOPS RALLY FANS AT VILLA PARK

It was a rare moment of unity in the stands as supporters of both Aston Villa and West Ham got to their feet on Saturday to applaud local troops returning from Basra.

The squaddies are all Villa followers, and our snapper Peter Millington muses that while he's not one to glorify war he found it "touching on a personal level. Don't blame the soldiers - blame the politicians, etc".

Indeed.

It re-opens the issue of whether we should have street parades for all our returning troops (see link here )
