BLIND DAVE – "MY LEGS TOOK A POUNDING" 07-04-2008 Blind Dave Heeley has achieved the first leg of his worldwide seven day, seven marathon fundraising extravaganza - but admits his legs "took a pounding" in the Falkland Islands where the campaign kicked off at midnight. Speaking from Porto Alegre Airport in Brazil where he’s stopped off en route to Rio – where his second marathon starts at 1.30 today – Dave sounded upbeat but knackered. “We’ve only managed to snatch a couple of hours sleep on the plane” he said, “But the Falklands was great. “They closed the runway as we got underway, there was a gun salute and we had fantastic support all the way from the MOD. “I am tired. The legs took a bit of a pounding on the surfaces in the Falklands.” With the flight to Rio, and this afternoon’s second run, there’s not much time for rest – although with an eight hour trip to Los Angeles looming, there should be some recovery time later today. Dave and Mac ran the first marathon in four hours sixteen minutes – slightly faster than the four and a half hours recommended by their fitness experts.
