MUMS THE WORD - PART TWO 07-03-2008 On this site yesterday, Laurence Inman opined that Mother’s Day was for sentimental dickheads. Barbara Panvel has a different kind of rumination. Some ignored Mothers Day Some played along with it. Some really enjoyed the day. Some could only grieve because their sons and daughters had been killed on our streets or in Iraq, Afghanistan, Gaza and Pakistan. The grief of parents and families is as deep and poignant whether the loss is due to an individual’s drug or alcohol enhanced hatred – or a nation’s oil and power-fuelled aggression. Sweden, Switzerland, New Zealand and Japan act only in defence. With that mindset and more wisely used resources, is it a coincidence that their well-nourished, well-educated citizens live more securely? (To see Laurence Inman's article "Mum's The Word") Should Britain operate only a purely defensive foreign policy? Leave a comment on the Stirrer Forum. |
