MONEY FOR NOTHING...EXCEPT SCOTLAND AND WALES

31-01-2007

The Stirrer whipped up a storm recently when questioning the discrimination which allows Scottish students to study free while their English counterparts have to pay fees. Now John Mellor has spotted another favour to the celtic fringe.

Starting in April Health Service prescriptions in Walesare tobe free of all charges . . Living in England ? Sorry, you willhave to pay prescription charges at £6.65 per item.

Elderly? In need of care?

Then emigrate to Scotland, where careservices are to be free.

English students will now face bills of up to £3,000 a year. Scotsstudents are not charged at all, and Welsh students only £1,200 ayear.

All this comes about because the Treasury spending in England issome £6,700 per head : in Wales, £7,666 and in Scotland theyreceive £8,266 each each year.

Who pays for this differential? Why ! The English tax payer !

So cheer up. Work hard. Pay your taxes and the Scots and WelshParliaments will spend it for you.
