XMAS CONCERT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS (Birmingham Cathedral, 15/12/07)

12-12-2007

This Saturday, Birmingham city centre stores will be humming with shoppers desperate to get their hands on must-have Christmas presents. But as Ros Dodd reports, St Philip’s Cathedral will also be humming – rather more tunefully – as it plays host to a Christmas Concert for Human Rights.

The concert, in aid of The Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture and Amnesty International, will feature Quinborne Choir, the soprano Jessica Mayhew, the Phoenix Duo (Barbara Shipton on piano and Sarah Bertram on violin) and the Choir of St Andrew’s Church, Handsworth.

A medley of Christmassy musical delights promises to bring some Festive cheer to the weariest of shoppers. The 90-minute programme includes Quinborne Choir singing, among other numbers, the Nativity Carol, And the Glory of the Lord (Messiah) and Candlelight Carol, as well as traditional carols with audience participation.

* Christmas Concert for Human Rights takes place on Saturday, 15 December 2007, 11.30am-1pm at St Philip’s Cathedral, Colmore Row, Birmingham. Tickets £5
