OPEN TOP TOUR FOR “GAGGED” BLIND DAVE

14-04-2008

Dave Heeley’s achievement in becoming the first disabled athlete to run seven marathons in seven days on seven continents will be honoured with an open top bus tour in his home town of West Bromwich.  But the Black Country runner has been gagged from announcing his next challenge.

Full details of Dave’s celebratory bus ride will be announced today by Sandwell Council, but The Stirrer understands that the plan is to greet him and his family and guide runner Mad Mac when they return to Sandwell and Dudley station on Wednesday.

They’ll then be taken to West Bromwich Town Hall for a Civic reception.

After the latest triumph, which has taken the name of Guide Dogs for the Blind around the world, Dave has said that he’s plotting another adventure – but he’s banned from saying what it is by wife Debbie.

She said:  “We just need to sit down and reflect on what he’s done, because this has been so long in the planning, and he’s going to be on a rollercoaster of emotions over the next few weeks when it all sinks in.

“I’ve told him not to say anything about what happens next – and I’m thinking of getting a big reel of sticky tape to put over his mouth to make sure that he doesn’t go back on his word.”
